Hydrogen Storage
UKOG is at the forefront of the energy revolution, spearheading strategic scale groundbreaking salt cavern hydrogen storage projects in Dorset and East Yorkshire. With a bold vision to power a cleaner future, UKOG is set to launch a pioneering hydrogen storage site in the UK, driving the nation towards a Clean Power system by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050.
Our dedicated subsidiary, UK Energy Storage (UKEn), has been working for the past four years on a £1 billion underground hydrogen storage project in South Dorset. This project, the largest in the UK, boasts an impressive maximum annual capacity of ~10TWh (approximately 0.9 billion m³ static storage), potentially meeting up to 17% of the UK’s hydrogen storage needs by 2050.
Not stopping there, we are also developing a significant site in East Yorkshire, aiming for an initial phase with a maximum annual capacity of ~7TWh (~0.4 billion m³ static storage), with plans to expand to match Dorset’s capacity. Together, these projects are set to help transform the UK’s energy landscape and secure a sustainable future
